Trust
Trust comes in many different forms, but one thing remains true for much of what we trust: we tend to trust family and friends more than anything else.  I want to focus in on trust as it relates to the products and services we buy.  Who can you trust? According to this survey, we trust Word of Mouth (WOM) and Consumer Opinions posted online, but it’s even better if we know the person posting...

And then everything is back to normal...
The worry is gone, the turkey (and leftovers) are done and now things begin to return to normal.  I know it’s a few days late, but I want to step back and write about things I am thankful for… So many things.  First is family; when you have that, everything thing else just falls into place.  As I write, my little girl is in “make-believe-land”.  You remember that place...

Worry and Thanksgiving -- together!
For those of you seeing this on facebook, click on VIEW POST below right to see the full content. I’ve been worried and those who know me know that is not my nature.  I can typically stay positive and not let things get to me.  Those who know me also know that I have been “over the top” excited about MyClicknation for a some time.  I continue to be excited; however, I stress...

Changes Happen
Sometimes we like them, sometimes we don’t.  We all experience change in our lives, some of it is difficult and some easy.  Some changes are forever and some for a short period of time.  My wife recently had surgery and has to take it easy for a few weeks, this means she cannot pickup our 3 year old daughter as she exceeds the 10 lb limit her doctor put on her. Talk about change!  Thank...

It started as a normal Monday
What is a “normal” Monday? I, like many people, would rather sleep until 10 AM on Mondays, but I had a meeting in Little Rock with an “Arkansas Business” reporter, so sleeping in was not an option.  I did leave my house about 15 minutes later than normal and that’s where things started changing into a not so normal Monday… The first thing I noticed about today was that the...

Pyramid schemes, scams and other nasty words
Fortune High Tech Marketing (FTHM) independent reps are hitting my daughter’s college hard.  They are pushing to get students and other young people to attend an “opportunity meeting”.  Be warned… if these meetings are like others I have attended it will be hard to say “no”.  Before you know it, you will be hundreds of dollars poorer and twisting arms to get all of your friends to a...

Postmaster General thinks JUNK MAIL IS OK!
Postmaster General John Potter took on proponents of do-not-mail legislation last week.  ”Somehow, they think a sale offer coming through the mail — as opposed to a newspaper, a magazine, TV, radio or the Internet — is a bad thing. Ads pay for the Internet, as well as broadcast TV and radio programs,” he said during a speech at the National Press Club. “So, too, ad mail helps...

What's in a name?
I do not profess to be an expert at marketing and branding, as a matter of fact, marketing and branding have been one of the hardest parts of my startup, legal being THE hardest.  So, what is in a name?  Would Google have been as successful had the called the company Search Boss, King of Search or something really simple like SearchOne?  What if Apple had been Orange?  What about Microsoft?  It’s...

Social Butterflies and ROCK STARS!
Are you a Social Butterfly, Social Media Rock Star or something in between?  The good news is that regardless of which you are; YOU HAVE VALUE!  I recently installed “Viral Loop” on my Facebook.  According to this application, my personal value to Facebook is $68.40.  This is pretty good when you consider that Facebook is not doing a good job of making money.  I would not consider myself a Social...

Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory condition of the foot. It has been reported plantar fasciitis occurs in two million Americans a year and 10% of the population over a lifetime.[1] It is commonly associated with long periods of work-related weight bearing. Among non-athletic populations, it is associated with a high body mass index. The pain is usually felt on the underside of the heel...

Startup Funk
Today is different…it’s raining AGAIN!  So how is it different?  I have a case of Startup Funk.  For those that have never been a part of a startup, you have never experienced Startup Funk.  Perhaps you have been exposed to one of its cousins; Housework Funk, Homework Funk and just plain ole Work Funk.  It’s that moment when you know there are every important things that need to be...

What is the cost?
Yesterday I took most of the day off to help my daughter move.  She is a college student at Arkansas Tech working toward becoming a RN and then later after working as a traveling nurse for a while, become an APN.  I am proud of her, as I am of all my children.  God has blessed me in many ways. Those of you that have or know of people that have started a business know that a startup is a crazy...

It’s all good, but sometimes a little painful…
What a great day we had celebrating my son’s 16th birthday this past Saturday!  Can you say RECOVERY TIME!  2 days later and I am so sore I can barely move.  This 48 year old played football with my son and his friends and was reminded of what it was like to be 16… that was the fun part then came the day after and today – ouch.  For his gift, we are going to watch the Eagles woop (that’s southern...

Can't wait
We are having a 16th birthday celebration for my son tomorrow.  Wow, kids grow up fast!  I am excited about the party! I expect to receive the tee-shirts the first of next week.  I can’t wait to get them. Working with my business partners and our creative partners, StationX, we continue to come up with great ideas for the business.  It just keeps getting better every day.  As I look back...

Holy Junkmail Batman!
My apologies for the title of this blog entry, it was just a phrase that came to me earlier tonight and I simply could not get it out of my head. So as we all like to do, I thought I’d share the misery with all those around me. You are welcome! Junkmail is actually at the heart of our company. Not creating it, but hoping to stop a bunch of it. I have admit, it was not the reason for the...

Back on Track
The story of my startup continues… After the setback I talked about in my last blog entry, we regrouped and started down another path. Having found a company willing to put in services valued at $500K, we still found ourselves “cash poor”. The services were great, but we still needed cash. We went back to our original plans (before being told we needed $1MM) and determined that we could...

Part 3 - Back to the Startup Story
So, yes the epiphany moment happened (refer back to Part 2) and I was like ignorance on fire!  I could not wait to tell everyone of my idea.  It was simply CRAZY that no one was already doing this.  The more I thought about it, the more excited I got.  I started thinking to myself, who can I talk to about the idea to make sure I am not crazy?  This simple idea could really create an opportunity...

Tweet Dreams - NOT so sweet!
I fear it is going to be a long day… I experienced something new last night – Tweet Dreams!  I am none too happy about it either.  My dreams last night were many short “dream bursts”.  I actually had dreams in both TEXT and VIDEO, many of them and each separated by a period of being AWAKE.  As someone new to Twitter, I hope this was just a freak event and something that does not repeat itself.   ...

Doing a Start-up is HARD
Well, it’s hard if you’ve never done it!  This is not my first start-up, but it is my first online start-up.  I started a restaurant many years ago.  It was not as hard as this. I read once where everyone has million dollar ideas almost every day; the trick is in what you do with the idea.  I’ve already told you about when I had the idea for my business, but it’s interesting to think about...

A personal note
I went to visit my grandmother today.  “Nanny” is in a nursing home and is bed ridden.   Her birthday is this Wednesday.  One day before my son turns 16, Nanny will be 93.  About 88 of those years were great, 2 were good, 2 were ok and this last one has not been so good.  We do not know how much she understands as she can no longer communicate.  I pray for her comfort daily… Nanny...

Part 2 - Doug gets ANGRY
I thought I’d share the “story” of why I am building a company.  Every good idea has a story!  Several months ago a friend called me and asked that I take a look at “something”, she wanted my opinion.  As it turned out she wanted me to view a DVD that she had been given that discussed all the wonderful things that would happen to her life if she joined Fortune High-Tech Marketing.  Cars, trips,...

Intro to Doug Chenault
I decided that I should start this blog because I was unable to fully respond to requests via Twitter.  I’d been thinking about doing a blog for months now, finally decided to get off my duff and get started, so here goes.  Thanks for the read! About me: 20+ years working in the Direct Marketing Services industry.  So what does that mean?  Most of my time was spent working for Acxiom...
