I thought I’d share the “story” of why I am building a company. Every good idea has a story! Several months ago a friend called me and asked that I take a look at “something”, she wanted my opinion. As it turned out she wanted me to view a DVD that she had been given that discussed all the wonderful things that would happen to her life if she joined Fortune High-Tech Marketing. Cars, trips, cash more than you can count…simply by buying products she already used through the company. I don’t recall exactly what they were, but I do remember one of them was Cingular cell phone service.
After viewing the DVD, I called to tell her I thought it was a good deal IF SHE NEEDED THE PRODUCTS (she had to buy 3 each month). But to get the cash, cars and trips she would have to recruit others to join under her. I told her, for me it’s not a good deal. I am already under contract with Cingular (now AT&T) and didn’t need or want any of the other products and services the company offered. I knew deep in my heart that she did not need the products either and her chances of signing up enough people under her to get the cash, cars and trips was likely not going to happen.
She then told me that she had already joined and made the purchases, including a monthly vitamin that was priced way too high. Then she told me, oh by the way, I also paid and extra few hundred dollars to become a company trainer! My heart hurt for her. She’d gone to an “opportunity meeting” and in the midst of all they hype and excitement wrote a big fat check that she really could not afford.
The more I thought about this, the more angry I became. Now, let me say that I am not against Network Marketing; I think it can be good. But NOT when it is executed like this. Hundreds of dollars, gone…
This event ended up being the turning point for me. It started me down a path of thinking that has led me to where I am now, building a company. You will have to wait to know more details because we are not ready to launch, but what I can tell you is that the goal was to create a “real opportunity” where most, if not everyone, could benefit. The other requirement I placed on myself was that it could not cost a lot of money to start and would not require costly and difficult monthly “qualification”. It took awhile, but one day the epiphany moment… it was grand! Stay tuned.
