Doing a Start-up is HARD

Well, it’s hard if you’ve never done it!  This is not my first start-up, but it is my first online start-up.  I started a restaurant many years ago.  It was not as hard as this.

I read once where everyone has million dollar ideas almost every day; the trick is in what you do with the idea.  I’ve already told you about when I had the idea for my business, but it’s interesting to think about it in the terms of everyone having million dollar ideas.  I was LOOKING for an idea and it came to me.  How many ideas have I let pass by because I was not looking.  If I’d have acted on one of those ideas, would I have missed out on this one?  Crazy loops are now flashing around in my brain, it makes me dizzy.

A mentor recently told me that I’ve been “selling” my idea long enough; it’s time to DO-IT!   When he told me this I was seeking his advice about how to handle a particular prickly element of the business.  Though I’d started my career as a programmer, the last 7 years were spent in sales.  He told me it had rubbed off on who I am and I needed shake that element for now and put on my entrepreneur hat, get my rear-end in gear and start building the company.  I did.

I honestly believe I have a billion dollar idea.  My biggest fear is how people will respond to the business model.  To my knowledge, it’s not been tried this before.  If I am successful in explaining the business to people, there is no reason EVERYONE should not want to be involved.  So, time to put my sales hat back on once again…
