Startup Funk

Today is different…it’s raining AGAIN!  So how is it different?  I have a case of Startup Funk.  For those that have never been a part of a startup, you have never experienced Startup Funk.  Perhaps you have been exposed to one of its cousins; Housework Funk, Homework Funk and just plain ole Work Funk.  It’s that moment when you know there are every important things that need to be done and your mood is lost somewhere in the middle of a foggy funk.  Any form of Funk is multiplied by 10X if it’s raining… so today, I am totally Funked!

This is when I need someone like Brant to kick me in my rear-end and tell me to get to work, but I am working from home today.  Oddly enough Brant is not my boss, right now I am my own boss — can you say dangerous!

We all need a kick in the pants every once in awhile.  Today I need it so I am going to attempt a feat that is most difficult to achieve, the Self Inflicted Kick in the Pants move.  Kids, don’t try this at home, I am a trained professional!  So, here goes….

There, all done.  Warning, this post may get boring as I am working now.

One of my Advisory Board members is Ray Everett-Church.  You can read about Ray at http://www.everett.org/.  Ray is one of those real smart people that you are just lucky to know.  He is a published author and all around Privacy Guru.  I came to know Ray after doing some of the research for my startup.  Ray was the World’s FIRST Chief Privacy Officer and associated with a company called AllAdvantage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AllAdvantage).

AllAdvantage launched in 1999 and paid people to surf the internet.  You could earn more by telling your friends having them join the company as well.  They we crazy successful, growing to several million members very quickly.  Then, the internet bubble BURST!  Their business model of paying people 50 cents per hour for surfing could not be supported as AD revenue took a dive.  Great idea, bad business model.

As I studied AllAdvantage, elements of our business model were developed so that we do not meet a fate such as they did.  It was a rather cool idea though, paying people to consume Advertising, but the AD rates of today will not generate much money.  There are companies that continue to try and have some success, but I don’t think they will last.  You have to do too much to earn a few pennies.  We learn from the mistakes of others…

Our business model is STRONG.  We have about 15 ways for our members to make money.  Some of those will result in earning pennies, others will generate dollars.  Together, it makes for a very rewarding opportunity for all.  Can’t wait!

Back to Ray.  Ray is helping me with our Privacy Policy and I owe him some information, so I have to go to work now.  Hope your day and weekend are Funk Free.
